Currently under the supervision of the Dept. of Mental Health, Danvers State Hospital and its precessors have been responsible for providing residential care and treatment of mentally ill persons in northeastern Massachusetts since 1878. This daybook was created as part of the hospital's financial record system to provide a chronological account of the institution's financial transactions.
